| Story | There's not much of a plot. Everyone wants to win the gold in racing so Mario and his friends and enemies jump into karts and race away! |

| Graphics | 7 | The view and style is the same as in its SNES predecessor, but much more colorful and lively. The characters are not rendered in 3-D polygon style and look rather static. |
| Sound | 8 | Very nice background music on the tracks. There's also cheering audience noises on some tracks, and as usual, the characters make funny noises and say funny things. |
| Challenge | 9 | Just like in Super Mario Kart, you can choose between 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc races, with each one harder than the last. |
| Replay Value | 9 | With secret tracks, battle mode, and up to 4 players, this game has a very high replay value, especially because it's such an easy way to rewind or entertain yourselves if you've got some friends over. |
